Sure, baking is a science and yes, it requires certain things to be done correctly. However, the process doesn't have to be daunting. You don't need to wake up in the middle of the night sweating with dread because you have to bake a cake tomorrow. With the right attitude and a few handy tips, you'll be on your way to better cakes..and sleep, in no time!
I often find myself struggling with being able to express my own style because people who order cakes always come with some pictures they found on Pinterest and ask me to copy the cake for them. It really makes me so sad when this happens.
Everyone goes through the same learning journey, that is you first learn by imitation. In order to figure out how something is made, you have to learn to make that exact thing. It's the same with cakes. In my earlier years of cake making, all the cakes I made were traditional and popular designs found on the internet like doll cakes, cupcake bouquets, drip cakes etc.
In celebration of my recent win of the Best Teacher Award by the Australian Cake Decorating Network and in line with my goal to celebrate every win this year, I thought it's only fitting to recap on my 'journey' (who am I, the Bachelorette haha) and tell you how I went from home baker to teaching over 100 physical cake decorating workshops in multiple countries in just 3 years.
